01 BHOOTA KOLAMARCH 2024
MEDIA: Risograph Poster
SIZE: A3 297mm x 420mmBhoota Kola is a traditional spirit worship dance performed by the Tuluva people of India. In the ritual, a patri (medium) dresses in costume, recites verses from the Siri Paddanna (an oral epic), and dances for hours, eventually becoming possessed by the Bhuta (spirit). The performance reflects socio-economic struggles and serves as a medium for villagers to seek blessings.
The poster features hand-drawn typography inspired by the patri’s costume. Bright orange represents the makeup, blue the night sky and Lord Shiva, while green and black reflect the jungle and animistic beliefs. Risograph printing, with subtle color displacement and texture, enhances the visual energy, supported by experimentation with varied paper weights and textures.
